The only information that is required in order to have an account on OwnTrail is your email address and screen name; every other field in your profile and in your Trail milestones is optional. You should only provide information about yourself and your experiences that you feel comfortable sharing with others. Note that some of the identity data you may choose to provide in your OwnTrail profile may be subject to special protections under the laws of your country.
We collect information about how you use OwnTrail, such as the types of content you view or engage with; the features you use; the actions you take; the people or accounts you interact with; and the time, frequency and duration of your activities.
We collect information from and about the device(s) you use to access OwnTrail. This can include operating system, browser type and language, IP address, mobile carrier, the sites you visited before and after navigating to OwnTrail, and device identifiers.
We may use cookies, web beacons and other tracking technologies to improve and customize your experience on OwnTrail; to allow you to access your account without re-entering your username or password; to understand usage of our products and the interests of our users; to determine whether an email has been opened and acted upon; and to present you with advertising relevant to your interests. To opt-out of cookies, you can instruct your browser, by changing its options, to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie from websites you visit.
We may obtain information from other sources and combine that information with data we collect about you. For example, we may collect information from third parties about inferred interests to help provide relevant and useful content to you.
The main reason we use your information is to give you the best possible experience on OwnTrail. Below are the specific ways we may use the information we collect about you.
We may use information about you to provide products to you. This includes authenticating you when you log in, showing you personalized content, and delivering the functionality available on OwnTrail.
We are always looking for ways to make our products more inspiring, inclusive and safe for you. We are also interested in understanding trends and patterns in people’s life paths. We may use collective learnings about how our products are used, the data that is shared, and feedback provided directly to us for these purposes.
We use the information we have to send you marketing communications, communicate with you about our products, and let you know about our policies and terms. We also use your information to respond to you when you contact us and to process and administer contests or sweepstakes.
We use the information we collect to verify accounts and activity, to monitor and combat harmful conduct; to detect and prevent spam and other negative communications; to maintain the integrity of our products; and to promote safety and security on OwnTrail.
We may share the information we collect in the following ways.
You share information with other users when you voluntarily disclose information, including in your profile and in your Trail. We also may share information with your consent or to meet national security or law enforcement requirements. We encourage you to only share content that you are comfortable being publically viewable.
We may use third parties to provide some functionality on OwnTrail. Examples of this may include analytics services, data hosting and social media sharing. If you choose to share your Trail on a social media platform, such as sharing to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, that third party may receive information about you that is managed under their respective privacy policies.
We may share aggregated information, which cannot be used to identify you, as part of the research we conduct on trends and statistics relating to people’s life paths. For example, we may conduct and share an analysis that reveals the percentage of OwnTrail users that share a given experience, or whose Trails follow a given pattern.
We may share or transfer your information in connection with or during negotiations of a merger, sale, acquisition, financing or other change of ownership or control.
Just as we celebrate the variety of choices you make in your life as you blaze your OwnTrail, we want you to embrace the choices you have about how your data is used on OwnTrail. Note that this site is not directed at children, and as such you may not use OwnTrail if you are under 18.
You have the ability to access and update certain information about you within OwnTrail. For example, you can update your profile information and modify your Trail content using the editing tools associated with that content. If there is data within your profile or Trail that you no longer wish to make available, you are able to delete those fields.
You may opt out of receiving marketing communications from us by using the unsubscribe link within each email, updating your email preferences within your OwnTrail account settings, or by contacting us at team@owntrail.com to have your contact information removed from our marketing email list. Even after you opt out from receiving marketing emails from us, you will continue to receive operational messages from us (such as notifications when someone interacts with your Trail).
If you no longer wish to have an OwnTrail account, you can delete your account by emailing team@owntrail.com. Please be aware that deleting your account will remove all information that is displayed about you on OwnTrail; however non-identifiable elements of your trail data may still be stored in aggregate.
We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by changing the Last Updated date below.
