OwnTrail for Employees: More Than Just a Perk

Before starting OwnTrail, I made a big career pivot. I had been in product leadership for almost 15 years, at Microsoft and then Zillow, and decided to make a move from my VP of Product role to start a new organization within Zillow, which we called Community & Culture. I understood that creating equitable opportunities within a company requires recognizing that everyone is coming from different starting points, and giving them all what they need to succeed. In a world full of systemic oppressions and unearned privileges, even a company with good intentions and fair policies needs to go above and beyond to level the playing field. I wanted to be part of that work.

While in that role, my team started Zillow’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), built out pathways for all employees to apply an equity and belonging lens to their work, and created initiatives to foster and measure the sense of belonging that employees of all identities experienced at work. The lessons and validations from those experiences have very much influenced the vision we’ve been working towards at OwnTrail. 

OwnTrail helps a diverse range of individuals to blaze their own trails towards a more fulfilling life. We see people reflect on what’s really important to them, have honest conversations about the hurdles they’re facing, navigate career pivots, build up self confidence, and help each other open doors to new opportunities. It’s so powerful to see the tools and community that we’ve built unlock so many incredible outcomes! 

While OwnTrail is a “direct to consumer” platform, which means that our tools and programming are built with our community members in mind, we know that the reflections, connections and support found on OwnTrail are exactly what a lot of employees need as they navigate their careers.
